My husband knew I wanted a small compact digital camera to carry with me I have a large SLR but it is not easy to carry everywhere and I am an impulse picture taker; whatever catches my eye I shoot.

He bought me a Nikon Cool Pix 8.0 Megapixel camera with a 2.5 megapixel screen and I was very pleased. I was extremely surprised by the quality of the pictures taken, closeup and distance with an easy to use zoom compared in quality to my more expensive camera. Repeat shots no problem and night time photos good clarity in low light conditions, easy downloading of photos, an easy delete and save, good battery life and with its slim, sleek case is easy to carry along. Nice sized buttons easy to turn on and off and battery saver feature was great.

My only negative was after only six months the lens would not open and I could no longer use the camera. After checking on line I found out that others had similar problems with the lens cover not opening on this same camera but could find no recalls or alternative to the problem. The warranty was only good for 90 days, not long enough for a camera that expensive; this was not the least expensive model in the Cool Pix series.

I had to purchase another camera a different brand this time; my confidence in Nikon being shaken, and what started out as a satisfying experience turned me sour on a name I trusted and respected for years, what a disappointment.
